The Trump administration will invest $1.6 billion in the development of a mine and an American magnet factory, according to sources. The agreement will be announced on Monday, along with a separate private investment of $1 billion. USA Rare Earth, the company involved, is developing a mine in Sierra Blanca, Texas, scheduled to open in 2028, and is finalizing a magnet factory in Stillwater, Oklahoma, which will be launched this year. The U.S. government will receive 16.1 million shares of USA Rare Earth, plus options for another 17.6 million shares, all valued at $17.17 per share. This investment is part of a broader strategy by the administration to increase the production of critical minerals, essential for technology and defense, in the context of reducing U.S. dependence on China in this sector.
