The Supreme Court of Spain has ruled that fundamental rights were not violated in the case of a 25-year-old woman who requested euthanasia. She suffers from a severe psychiatric illness and has had multiple suicide attempts, culminating in a fall from the 5th floor, which left her paraplegic and in chronic pain.

The euthanasia request was approved by a commission of experts in Catalonia in July 2024, and the procedure is scheduled for the following month. The young woman's father, supported by the organization Christian Lawyers, has challenged the decision, claiming that the mental illness affects his daughter's ability to make an informed decision.

However, lower courts and the Constitutional Court have confirmed the legality of the request. Christian Lawyers intend to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights to continue the fight on behalf of the father. Euthanasia was legalized in Spain in 2021, despite opposition from the Catholic Church and conservative parties.
