The Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced that the government will ask the Prosecutor's Office to investigate platforms X, Meta, and TikTok for possible crimes related to the creation and dissemination of child pornography through artificial intelligence. This measure comes after Sánchez proposed banning access to social networks for individuals under 16 years old, due to the risks to children's mental health.

The Prime Minister stated that "the impunity of these giants must come to an end" and announced other legislative measures to hold the executives of large tech companies accountable and to criminalize the manipulation of algorithms to amplify illegal content. Sánchez's policies have sparked criticism from platform owners, including attacks from Elon Musk and Pavel Durov, who warned that these regulations could threaten online freedoms and could turn Spain into a surveillance state.
