Ivan Nagy, the editor-in-chief of the tabloid Blikk, the most read newspaper in Hungary, announced his resignation shortly after the newspaper was sold to the Indamedia group, associated with Prime Minister Viktor Orban. This sale, carried out by the Swiss group Ringier, is seen as an attempt to reduce press independence six months before the parliamentary elections. Nagy stated that the new owner does not want him, but that their intentions align. The sale also includes other publications, and over 80% of the Hungarian press is already controlled by Orban's associates. Ringier stated that the decision to sell was based on economic considerations, but criticisms regarding media independence persist.
