During the last week, the online environment was marked by a high interest in economic topics, driven by the dynamics in the area of domestic and international companies, developments in government policy, or legislative proposals impacting the economic field. A monitoring conducted through the NewsVibe platform – which uses machine learning algorithms to analyze content from the press and social media – identified 24,191 materials with economic themes published during this period. The analysis results highlighted ten entities that benefited from increased online visibility, investigating both the factors that generated this exposure and the influence of digital channels in amplifying the transmitted messages.

Top 10 entities in trend, in economic context

  1. Mircea Coșea
  2. Irineu Darău
  3. Doicești
  4. AMEPIP
  5. SMR
  6. AirBnB
  7. Leoni
  8. STB
  9. Fontana din Trevi
  10. Databricks

Mircea Coșea. The well-known economist, university lecturer, and former deputy prime minister passed away at the age of 83 due to health issues. The online press highlighted his contributions both as a politician and as an economic analyst, reiterating even his recent forecasts regarding the economic challenges Romania will face in 2026.

Irineu Darău. Irineu Darău was validated by USR as a proposal for the Ministry of Economy. A computer scientist by profession and a senator in his second term, Darău stated that he aims to make decisions that will "unlock economic potential, encourage entrepreneurs, and attract investments." This appointment comes in the context where Radu Miruță, the current Minister of Economy, is nominated for the Ministry of Defense.

Doicești. The project for small modular nuclear reactors (SMR) in Doicești is in the final stage of design and feasibility studies. The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, announced that Romania is advancing in this project, in collaboration with the United States, aiming to ensure energy independence, including through the production of "constant and safe energy." Additionally, the possibility of developing other SMR projects in Romania is being explored.

AMEPIP. The current Minister of Economy, Radu Miruță, was fined 15,000 lei by the Agency for Monitoring and Evaluating the Performance of Public Enterprises (AMEPIP). The fine was imposed following the minister's decision to appoint an interim management at Avioane Craiova, after the selection procedure had not been completed for 9 years. Miruță described the situation as a "peak of absurdity" and announced that he would contest it.

AirBnB. The European Commission intends to propose in 2026 a legal framework to allow local authorities in the EU to limit short-term tourist rentals, such as those offered through Airbnb. This measure comes in the context of a housing crisis in the EU, where prices have increased by over 60%, and rents by over 20% in the last decade. Additionally, the Capital City Hall has launched a public consultation on a project to establish a tourist tax of 10 lei/night in Bucharest starting in 2026.

Leoni. The German company Leoni, a major supplier of cables for the automotive industry with several factories in Romania, taken over in the summer by the Chinese company Luxshare, announced layoffs that will affect 700 employees, out of a total of over 10,000 nationwide.

STB. The general mayor Ciprian Ciucu announced that the Capital City Hall and subordinate institutions have debts of over 2 billion lei, a large part of which represents debts of STB to ANAF. He described the budget situation of Bucharest as critical, mentioning that STB is close to bankruptcy and has had discussions with the prime minister and the finance minister to avoid a financial blockage.

Fontana din Trevi. Starting in February of next year, tourists will pay a fee of two euros to admire the Fontana di Trevi in Rome, announced the mayor of the Italian capital.

Databricks. The company Databricks, which has among its founders two Romanian-born computer scientists, recently attracted significant funding of over 4 billion dollars for development. Online articles focused on the backgrounds of the Romanian co-founders, with evaluations of their wealth.
