The electoral authority in Portugal announced that the second round of the presidential elections will take place as scheduled on Sunday, despite the recent inclement weather that has affected the country.

The National Election Commission (CNE) stated that the law does not allow for a general postponement of elections at the national level, even though the nationalist candidate Andre Ventura requested a delay. The municipality of Alcacer do Sal, one of the areas most affected by flooding, decided to postpone the elections, but the CNE emphasized that postponement is not mandatory in all polling stations. The socialist candidate Antonio José Seguro, the favorite in the elections, supported maintaining the election date where possible and urged citizens to vote on Sunday.
