The Prime Minister's request was supported by Donald Trump, but it has drawn criticism from the opposition, which believes that clemency should be conditioned on Netanyahu's withdrawal from politics and acknowledgment of guilt. Additionally, some politicians have called for the Prime Minister to call national elections before requesting clemency.
