The President of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, announced that he was the victim of an attempted poisoning through chocolate candies filled with a jelly containing three chemical substances. These candies were received at a public event, and Noboa emphasized that the presence of these compounds in high concentration cannot be coincidental. The military body responsible for his security has filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office, presenting the necessary evidence. This is the second complaint for attempted murder against the president, in a context of intense protests from the indigenous population, who contest his policies, especially the removal of the subsidy for diesel.
Additionally, in October, the government reported that Noboa's car was the target of gunfire. On November 16, a referendum will take place to pave the way for a constituent assembly, aimed at strengthening legislation against drug trafficking.
