The Portuguese government has announced a temporary reduction in fuel prices, which will bring savings of 1.8 cents per liter of diesel and 3.3 cents per liter of gasoline, starting from Monday. This measure comes in response to the increase in prices, which would have risen by 9.8 cents per liter of diesel and 10.5 cents per liter of gasoline without government intervention.

The fuel tax adjustment mechanism has been activated under conditions where the increase exceeds 10 cents per liter compared to previous average prices. Although the European Commission has expressed reservations about such measures, the Portuguese government believes that the reduction is necessary to protect consumers. The rise in crude oil prices, which has exceeded 100 dollars per barrel due to tensions in the Middle East, has contributed to this decision.
