On Friday, a Polish court will review the extradition request for Ukrainian diver Volodymyr Z., wanted by Germany for his involvement in the Nord Stream pipeline explosions. Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that his extradition is not in Poland's interest, emphasizing that the issue is not the destruction of the pipeline, but its construction.
The explosions have affected Russian gas supplies to Europe and have intensified tensions between Warsaw and Berlin, which have lasted for years. The German prosecutor's office accuses Volodymyr Z. of unconstitutional sabotage, but his lawyer contests the charges, claiming that he has committed no wrongdoing. In Poland, courts can refuse extradition if it would violate human rights. Additionally, Warsaw has opened its own investigation, where Volodymyr Z. has the status of a witness. Another Ukrainian suspect, Serhii K., has obtained a postponement of his extradition in Italy.
