The Pentagon has announced the withdrawal of approximately 5,000 American troops from Germany, a decision that reflects President Donald Trump's dissatisfaction with the level of support provided by European allies in the context of tensions with Iran. The withdrawal, scheduled to take place in the next six to 12 months, will affect a combat brigade and a long-range missile battalion. Germany, which hosts over 36,000 active American troops, is a crucial hub for American operations in Europe. Pentagon officials emphasized that this measure is part of a reorientation of priorities in defending American territory and in the Indo-Pacific region. The decision was influenced by recent tensions between Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who criticized the American strategy regarding Iran. Although Trump has threatened to withdraw from NATO, a law from 2023 prevents such a unilateral action.
