The Israeli ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, reacted, accusing the mayor of fueling hostility towards Israel. Netanyahu responded by accusing Mamdani of supporting Hamas and reaffirmed that he will attend the UN General Assembly. Mamdani, a member of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, criticized Israel's policy, calling it an "apartheid regime" and condemned the offensive in Gaza. The ICC has issued arrest warrants against Netanyahu for his actions in Gaza.
