The Italian border police announced the seizure of over 42 tons of tomato paste falsely labeled as being produced in Italy, but which entered the country through Bulgaria. The confiscation operations took place in the port of Brindisi, where officers stopped two suspicious trucks. Although it is unclear whether the paste comes from Bulgaria or another country, the shipments were destined for well-known Italian companies for their tomato products. This fraud could have generated illicit profits of hundreds of thousands of euros and could pose a risk to consumer health, considering the possible presence of contaminants banned by EU legislation. Colonel Emilio Fiora emphasized that consumers would have been misled, believing they were purchasing an authentic Italian product.
