Abbas Araghchi will make a visit to Beijing on Tuesday for discussions with his Chinese counterpart, focusing on bilateral relations and regional and international developments, according to an announcement made on the ministry's Telegram account. Araghchi's visit coincides with the scheduling of a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, which will take place from May 14-15.

Although China condemned the initial attacks by the U.S. and Israel on Iran, it has adopted a position of neutrality and called for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict. China, the largest buyer of Iranian oil, has managed to avoid the worst effects of the oil shock caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. In the context of trade tensions between Washington and Beijing, Trump stated that he looks forward to the meeting with Xi, emphasizing the importance of the visit. Araghchi recently had discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who promised support for Iran.
