The International Swimming League (ISL) aims to relaunch in 2026, after a three-year hiatus caused by the pandemic and geopolitical conflicts. Commissioner Ben Allen stated that the new format will reduce dependence on a single investor, focusing on sponsorships and media partnerships. The comeback season will include seven stages in North America and Europe, with possible stages in Asia and the Middle East.
ISL will experiment with a one-day format to facilitate fan access and will maintain a vibrant entertainment atmosphere around the competitions. The league wants to help athletes remain visible in the Olympic cycle, considering that many fade from public attention after the Olympic Games. Allen emphasized that ISL is ready to return regardless of legal disputes with World Aquatics, which has allowed swimmers to participate in ISL without losing their right to compete in the Olympic Games.
