An Indian cargo ship, MSV Faize Noore Oliya, sank on Tuesday in the Red Sea after being attacked by a trap vessel near the port of Hodeida, controlled by Houthi rebels.
A local official from the Red Sea province confirmed that the Coast Guard rescued the crew, consisting of 14 sailors, of whom 13 were Indians. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs condemned the attack and emphasized that it is coordinating with Yemeni authorities to manage the situation.
The incident occurred against the backdrop of a maritime blockade imposed by Houthi rebels, who seek to disrupt Saudi exports, thereby amplifying the regional conflict and the impact on oil supply through the Strait of Hormuz.
This escalation of tensions in the Red Sea severely affects maritime traffic in the area.
