The Hungarian government, led by Prime Minister Péter Magyar, announced on Tuesday the filing of a criminal complaint for suspected mismanagement of public funds, breach of trust, and abuse of office, in connection with expenses of over 4 billion forints (approximately 10.7 million euros) for communications on social media during Viktor Orbán's government.
The complaint targets an unidentified suspect and was initiated after reviewing contracts by the Prime Minister's office. The controversial contract, awarded without a tender to Triton Communications, has been extended multiple times, and the monthly fee has increased significantly, despite unchanged requirements. The government emphasized that this expenditure represents a considerable overcharge.
In response, Fidesz accused the current government of political attacks on the involved company, claiming that the amount has only increased at the rate of inflation. Since taking power, Péter Magyar has launched initiatives against corruption and for the recovery of public assets.
