The French Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, has published a circular imposing drug testing for ministers and government officials. This measure comes as a result of the need to demonstrate the integrity of the Government, considering the nature of their missions and their exposure.
The tests, which will be conducted unexpectedly and will consist of saliva tests, aim to verify whether the individuals involved consume prohibited substances, even occasionally. Lecornu emphasizes that drug use could represent a personal vulnerability, susceptible to being exploited by criminal groups.
Ministers must develop an action plan by June 26, and in the case of positive results, disciplinary measures will be taken. A prevention and consultation plan in the field of addictions will also be implemented, in collaboration with preventive medicine. This decision was influenced by a recent incident when an advisor to the Prime Minister was dismissed for drug use.
