The French ambassador to Iran, Pierre Cochard, was summoned by the Iranian Foreign Ministry following allegations of "interference" in Iran's internal affairs. This summons occurred after two French diplomats were detained and interrogated by Iranian security services.
The spokesperson for the Iranian ministry, Esmail Baghai, stated that the French government must cease these actions "under the pretext of engagement in civil society."
In contrast, the French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, condemned the intimidation actions of the Iranian authorities and emphasized that the diplomats were detained without reason.
Iran denied the allegations of aggression, stating that the diplomats were only "briefly interrogated" after attending a "meeting with several individuals sought by the authorities."
