Kim Keon Hee, the wife of former South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol, has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for receiving bribes from the controversial Unification Church. The court also ordered the return of a diamond necklace and the repayment of 12.85 million won. In exchange, Kim was acquitted of charges of manipulating stock prices and receiving free opinion polls from a political broker before the 2022 presidential elections won by her husband. Yoon Suk Yeol has already been sentenced to five years in prison for abuse of power and obstruction of justice related to a failed martial law attempt in 2024. This is the first time in South Korea's history that a presidential couple has been sentenced simultaneously.
