The European Parliament has issued a strong warning to Georgia and Turkey, emphasizing that the approach towards the European Union cannot continue without authentic democratic reforms. MEPs condemned the democratic regression in both countries, demanding that any progress in relations with the EU be conditioned on respect for the rule of law and fundamental rights.

In the case of Georgia, the governance of the Georgian Dream party has been criticized for the lack of measures to reverse anti-European trends. The adopted resolution established that future EU commitments with Tbilisi depend on concrete steps to halt democratic regression.

Regarding Turkey, the accession process remains blocked due to issues related to the rule of law and press freedom. MEPs highlighted Turkey's strategic importance to the EU, despite democratic backsliding.
