The European Parliament voted on the budget for 2026, which includes 192.8 billion euros in payments and 190.1 billion in commitments. Among the priorities of this budget are research, infrastructure, border management, and climate actions. Following negotiations with member states, the European Parliament secured an additional amount of 372.7 million euros. Funding for the Horizon Europe program was increased by 20 million euros, and for transport and energy networks by 23.5 million euros.
Additionally, extra funds were allocated for civil protection, military mobility, and border management. Environmental and health programs also received additional funding. The budget was adopted with 419 votes in favor, 185 against, and 53 abstentions, and the EU Council expressed its support for this agreement, emphasizing the importance of a stronger and safer Europe in the context of current challenges.
