The European Commission is intensifying efforts to reduce energy prices, both for consumers and for industry, in a context where they remain far too high compared to other regions. The Commissioner for Energy, Dan Jorgensen, emphasized the need to provide rapid assistance to citizens and businesses, especially large energy-consuming industries.
The Commission has launched an Action Plan for affordable energy prices, which includes seven specific actions to be implemented in collaboration with member states. Among these are maximizing state aid, improving cross-border interconnections, and diversifying gas sources. An essential aspect is the reduction of energy taxes, which can account for up to a third of the total bill, having a significant impact on vulnerable consumers and industry. The Commission will issue recommendations to support this tax reduction.
