The European Commission, under the leadership of Commissioner for Energy Dan Jørgensen, proposes trade measures against imports of Russian oil, considering that Hungary and Slovakia have not presented viable plans to detach from Russian energy sources. These measures could include a punitive tax on Russian oil and do not require unanimity, thus avoiding Hungary's veto right. Additionally, the EU intends to accelerate the ban on imports of Russian liquefied gas by 2027, and to facilitate this effort, the Commission could unlock funds for Hungary.
