The European Commission reacted vehemently to the report of the Judiciary Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, which accuses the EU of censoring the global internet and influencing elections in several European states, including Romania.
Brussels rejected these claims, calling them "completely unfounded" and "absurd." The EU spokesperson for digital affairs, Thomas Regnier, emphasized that the Digital Services Act (DSA) is meant to protect freedom of expression, not to limit it. The critical report, drafted by Republicans, claims that the EU has been trying for a decade to censor the global internet and public discourse. The document also accuses Brussels of pressuring online platforms to censor content during the EU elections and in the context of the Covid pandemic.
