Last year, the European Union recorded 4.6 billion small parcels, most of which came from China, and their number is expected to increase. Starting from July 1, the EU will introduce a temporary tax of 3 euros on each small parcel, applied once per item, to address issues of unfair competition and risks to consumers. This measure comes after the removal of the customs duty exemption for parcels under 150 euros. The European Council emphasized that this tax is necessary to protect European traders from foreign platforms that do not comply with EU regulations. In Romania, the tax of 25 lei on non-EU parcels was deemed constitutional by the Constitutional Court.
