The decision of the EU Council allows for the signing of a UN convention that establishes global rules for combating cybercrime, including cyber fraud and online sexual abuse of children. The convention will harmonize criminal legislation among the signatory states, facilitating cooperation in the investigation and prosecution of crimes. It also includes guarantees for the protection of human rights, excluding abuses. Signing will begin on October 25, 2025, and the convention will enter into force after the ratification by 40 countries.
