The Danish government, led by the Social Democratic Party, has announced that it will consider the possibility of banning the Adhan, the call to prayer recited by Muslims five times a day.
The Minister of Immigration, Morten Bødskov, stated that this call should not be heard in Denmark, emphasizing that he does not want citizens to feel like they are in a suburb of Islamabad. This initiative is not new, being the third attempt to create a legal framework for banning the Adhan, following previous attempts in 2020 and 2025.
Although some areas in Copenhagen have local regulations that limit noise, a potential ban could face legal obstacles, considering the guarantee of religious freedom by the Danish Constitution.
Denmark has approximately 270,000 Muslims and 100 mosques.
