Men in Denmark over the age of 55 will no longer have access to fertility treatments in the public sector.

In Denmark, the organization of Danish regions has announced that men over the age of 55 will no longer be able to benefit from fertility treatments within the public health system. The new regulation requires that they be directed to fertility treatments before turning 55 years old.

All treatment options will be suspended once they reach the age of 56, a measure justified by medical recommendations aimed at limiting health risks for children born to older fathers. Until now, the age limit for assisted reproductive treatments applied only to women, who must start these treatments by the age of 40, and no woman over 46 can benefit from them. Denmark thus becomes one of the first countries to impose such an age limit for men. According to WHO, infertility affects one in six people globally, and in Denmark, one child out of ten is born as a result of fertility treatment.
