The Cannes Film Festival has announced that it will not allow artificial intelligence to influence cinematography, according to statements made by president Iris Knobloch during a press conference held in Paris. Knobloch emphasized the importance of defending the freedom of creativity exclusively for human beings, mentioning that, although AI has penetrated the creative processes, the festival refuses to allow it to dictate the industry's norms.
The statements come in the context of industry concerns generated by an AI-generated video that sparked outrage among major Hollywood studios. At the end of February, 4,000 actors and filmmakers from France denounced the abuses caused by generative artificial intelligence programs. Knobloch highlighted that, although AI can imitate, it will never be able to feel, emphasizing the importance of human contribution in every film project. The 79th edition of the festival will take place between May 12 and 23.
