The spokesperson for the Thai government, Rashada Dhnadirek, announced at a press conference that the duration of the visa for tourists will be reduced from 60 to 30 days for most countries, and for certain nationalities, the duration will be 15 days, determined on a case-by-case basis. This change is part of the government's efforts to combat transnational crime, after reports of system abuses, including illegal activities carried out by foreign citizens.
Tourists will be able to renew the visa once, but they will need to justify their desire to stay longer. Thailand, which relies on tourism for over 10% of its GDP, expects to receive approximately 33.5 million foreign tourists this year.
