Tesla will launch an official showroom in Mumbai on July 15 called the Tesla Experience Center, marking its first entry into the Indian market. The event will include display of Tesla models and the opportunity to start direct sales. Although Tesla has been exploring opportunities in the Indian market for some time, it has only recently accelerated plans, discussing technology collaborations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Without a local factory, vehicles will be imported and the company will face high import duties. Tesla is recruiting staff in Mumbai and New Delhi to support its operations.
