Tesla announced on Wednesday the expansion of its driverless robotaxi service across the entire Austin metropolitan area, Texas, thus accelerating the autonomous transport strategy under CEO Elon Musk.

Although the service has been operating in Austin for nearly a year, users have faced wait times of up to 30 minutes. Currently, Tesla operates about 50 autonomous vehicles in Austin, while its main competitor, Waymo, has over 250 vehicles.

Musk stated that he expects fully autonomous cars to become more widespread in the United States by the end of the year. Tesla plans to expand the robotaxi service to other cities in Texas, such as Dallas and Houston.
