The Royal Thai Army has conducted airstrikes along the border with Cambodia, following recent clashes that resulted in the deaths of two Thai soldiers and injuries to four others. Cambodia has stated that it did not retaliate and accused Thailand of provocation. The dispute between the two countries has deep roots, stemming from the Franco-Siamese treaties of 1904-1907, centered around the Preah Vihear Temple. Although the International Court of Justice ruled in 1962 that the temple belongs to Cambodia, the surrounding area remains contested. Tensions escalated in 2025, culminating in intense fighting and a ceasefire mediated by Malaysia and the USA. The United Nations Security Council has called on both parties to de-escalate the situation and resolve the conflict peacefully.
