The relations between Italy and Switzerland are tense after Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni criticized Switzerland's request to recover over 100,000 Swiss francs (approximately 127,000 dollars) for the treatments of four Italian citizens hospitalized in Sion after a fire. In a statement, the Federal Office for Social Insurance (FSIO) confirmed that the victims will receive a bill only for verification purposes, and the costs will be covered by the competent health insurer.

Meloni stated that Italy will categorically reject this request, trusting in the responsibility of the Swiss authorities. Italy's ambassador to Switzerland, Gian Lorenzo Cornado, emphasized that injured Swiss patients were treated in Italy without requesting any payment, thus highlighting the discrepancy in the approach of the two countries.
