Ten members of the jihadist group Islamic State (IS), convicted of terrorism, were executed by hanging in al-Hout prison in Iraq.

The executions took place under the supervision of the justice ministry, despite UN calls to end the practice. Detainees were sentenced under a penal code that allows the death penalty for anyone who joins a terrorist group, regardless of involvement. Although the Iraqi authorities declared victory against IS in 2017, jihadist cells continue to attack soldiers and police officers.
