A Chinese aircraft carrier has crossed the Taiwan Strait, announced the authorities in Taipei.

The Ministry of Defense of Taiwan announced that the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning has crossed the Taiwan Strait, stating that Taiwanese armed forces closely monitored this movement.

A black-and-white photograph of the ship was presented, highlighting fighter jets and helicopters on deck. This is the latest in a series of crossings, preceded by that of the aircraft carrier Fujian in December.

China claims sovereignty over the strait, a position contested by Taipei and Washington, which consider it an area of international waters.
