Wellington Koo, the Minister of Defense of Taiwan, announced the completion of preliminary coordination with the United States for military acquisitions, receiving details about offers and the transaction schedule. President Lai Ching Te proposed an increase in the defense budget by 40 billion dollars for the period 2026-2033, aiming to strengthen the island's defense capabilities in the face of threats from China. The proposal requires parliamentary approval, where the opposition, represented by the Kuomintang Party, has expressed concerns about dependence on massive loans.
