The Swedish air forces carried out two missions with JAS 39 Gripen aircraft to intercept Russian fighter jets, namely the Su-24 Fencer and Su-34 Fullback, which were flying close to Swedish airspace, reports the Swedish armed forces.
The rapid intervention of the reaction forces demonstrated the effectiveness of the national defense system, without Swedish airspace being violated. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson emphasized the concern regarding Russia's repeated behavior in the Baltic Sea, highlighting the importance of a daily operational alert. The incident underscores the necessity for Sweden, along with its allies, to be prepared to detect, identify, and intercept threats to protect its airspace.
