Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of the American president, stated that there is a possibility of good news in the coming weeks regarding the conclusion of the war between Russia and Ukraine. He mentioned that a summit could be organized between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Witkoff described the conflict as a 'senseless war', emphasizing that both parties do not seem to truly want to continue the fight. He suggested that the difficulties in achieving peace lie at the leadership level of both states and expressed hope that, in the next three weeks, proposals could be discussed that would bring the two parties closer together. Witkoff also mentioned that Donald Trump could participate in the meeting, but only 'if he feels he can bring things to a successful conclusion and achieve the best outcome'.
In this context, Zelensky stated that he has observed progress in military negotiations, but not in political ones, accusing Russia of delaying discussions.
