Train conductors in Spain began a three-day strike on Monday, demanding improvements to the railway infrastructure and more funding, after two serious accidents resulted in the deaths of 47 people in January.

Authorities have imposed a minimum percentage of trains that workers must ensure, but Atocha station in Madrid was extremely crowded, with travelers expressing both solidarity and irritation. The CCOO union emphasized that the recent accidents are the result of decisions that prioritize cuts at the expense of safe rail transport.

The two accidents, one in Adamuz and another in Gelida, have raised serious questions about the state of the Spanish railway network, and employees complain that their grievances are not being heard.
