Fifteen American aircraft have left the military bases Rota and Morón in southern Spain, following the attacks launched by the United States and Israel against Iran. Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, stated that Spain will not allow the use of these bases for attacks, condemning the American-Israeli actions. At least seven aircraft have landed at the Ramstein airbase in Germany.
Although the United Kingdom initially authorized the use of its bases for collective self-defense, Spain has taken a different position, which could strain relations with Washington. Albares emphasized that the bases will not be used outside of the agreement with the United States or contrary to the United Nations Charter. Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, confirmed that the aircraft, mainly tanker planes, were permanently stationed in Spain.
