In Burundi, six people accused of witchcraft have been killed by members of the Imbonerakure militia, who broke into their homes, beat, stoned or burned them alive. The incident took place in Bujumbura province, and witnesses described the attack as "barbarity without name". The provincial governor condemned the actions as "inadmissible mob justice" and announced the arrest of 12 suspects. In Burundi, traditional beliefs about witchcraft are deeply rooted and such incidents are frequent.
