More than half of the children born in Scotland in 2021 have unmarried parents.

In 2021, over half (51.7%) of children were born to unmarried parents. Additionally, the fertility rate was the lowest in major cities, with the lowest rate in the City of Edinburgh (0.99), followed by Glasgow City (1.05) and Aberdeen City (1.06).
