Tensions between Ukraine and Hungary escalated after the arrest of seven employees of the Ukrainian bank Oschadbank, who were transporting large sums of money and gold.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the inhumane treatment they were subjected to, including forced detention, blindfolding, and deprivation of access to consular assistance. One of the employees was hospitalized after being forcibly injected with a medication. Although they were expelled, the transported goods, valued at approximately 75 million dollars, remain confiscated.
Oschadbank announced that it will sue Hungary for the return of the goods and will contest the measures imposed by the Hungarian authorities.
The incident amplified tensions between Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in the context of broader disputes related to European aid and relations with Russia.
