A road accident occurred in the morning in the town of Aitona, Catalonia, when a bus with 55 passengers lost control and crashed into the town hall building after hitting a bus stop.
The accident, which took place around 7:30 AM, resulted in injuries to at least 43 people, of whom 33 suffered minor injuries, nine are in serious condition, and four are in critical condition. Authorities are investigating the causes of the accident, considering both the possibility that the driver may have tried to avoid a collision with a truck, as well as the hypothesis of losing control of the vehicle. All passengers on the bus were seasonal workers heading to a nearby orchard.
At the scene of the accident, 11 fire crews and 12 ambulances responded, and a field hospital was set up to care for the victims. Local authorities emphasize that, despite the severity of the accident, a larger tragedy was avoided, considering that the bus did not hit pedestrians on the sidewalk.
