Serbia and NATO have launched joint military exercises for the first time since the Kosovo war, a symbolic moment for relations between Belgrade and the North Atlantic Alliance.

The exercises, involving approximately 600 soldiers from Serbia, Italy, Romania, and Turkey, are taking place under NATO's Partnership for Peace program, aimed at maintaining regional stability. Although cooperation with NATO is a sensitive topic in Serbia, Serbian authorities emphasize that the training respects the country's military neutrality policy.

Serbia, which is not a NATO member, has invested in armaments from various sources, including NATO member states, as well as from Russia and China.

The exercises will continue until May 23, and NATO officials have stated that they are important for the stability of the region while simultaneously respecting Serbia's neutrality.
