Senator Marco Rubio is making a visit to India in the context of the disruption of oil transport through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global energy exports.

This visit comes against the backdrop of escalating conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States, and Washington aims to persuade Delhi to purchase more energy from the U.S. India, which imports over 80% of its energy needs, is considering the possibility of increasing imports from the U.S., which could also reduce the $58.2 billion trade deficit recorded in its relationship with the United States.

However, analysts warn that a rapid increase in energy imports from the U.S. is complicated due to costs and transportation time. Discussions between the two parties will focus on energy security, and India may seek concessions for purchases of Russian oil.

Rubio's visit also aims to mediate trade tensions and participate in the meeting of foreign ministers of the Quad group, which will address security in the Indo-Pacific region.
