According to the Mediafax announcement, a section of the stairs of the Eiffel Tower, which connected the second and third floors, was sold at auction for 450,000 dollars. This portion, consisting of 24 steps arranged in a spiral and having a height of 2.75 meters, was auctioned off on Thursday. At the inauguration of the Eiffel Tower in 1889, this staircase was in use, but later an elevator was installed, and the staircase was dismantled and divided into 24 sections. The auction house mentioned that few of these sections remained in France and were kept by the original buyers.

The sold section comes from a private collection, where it stayed for 40 years, and its rarity led to the initial price estimate between 120,000 and 150,000 euros. Although it was sold for a sum greater than the estimate, it is not the most expensive ever sold. Other segments of the staircase have been installed in various locations, including in the gardens of the Yoishii Foundation in Japan and near the Statue of Liberty in New York.
