Following threats related to drone attacks, the city of Tartu in Estonia has decided to reinforce the window fittings of schools.

Local authorities have begun to cover the fittings in emergency shelters with a special plastic film, designed to limit the scattering of glass shards in the event of an explosion. This measure comes amid an increase in incidents where drones have accidentally entered Estonian airspace. Deputy Mayor Martin Bek emphasized the importance of preparing schools for emergency situations, drawing inspiration from the experiences of Ukrainian colleagues. Work is already underway at Karlova School, and plans include extending measures to kindergartens and social institutions.

Although the film provides additional protection, experts warn that it is not a perfect solution in the case of strong explosions. Tartu has allocated 850,000 euros for resilience in crisis situations, of which 64,000 euros are designated for covering the window fittings of schools.
